It's because in the beginning adobe leveraged certain aspects of hardware which apple designed and created their quality assurance around.įor example adobe leveraged nvidia architecture (CUDA cores) when it came to anything graphical thus boosting performance while ATi (now AMD) was left out in the cold. Any designer that doesn't have a firm grasp on Adobe products doesn't have that base. You can specialize once you've found that base.
Trends come and go so to be a graphic designer in the truest sense you should have a good base on everything design to really excel. So, sure UX is the hot new thing that is getting drenched in talent right now, but that'll fizzle, it does with everything. Sketch is just more specialized app for an already specialized section of design. So, sure, Sketch works for that particular skill, but anything done in Sketch could be performed by any of those tools in a pinch. UX realistically is not much different than any other layout, everything needs to be taken into consideration no matter if it's in InDesign or Web or Print or Interactive. Honestly I think it's a skill that all graphic designers should have. I think of UX as more of a skill or specialization of graphic design. I could see how it would be jarring though switching from one to another. Honestly just looking at the InDesign it looks like the Windows shortcuts would be easier to use.

The keyboard + trackpad setup worked fine when I was out and about, but I can work so much faster on a full size, full travel keyboard and mouse.

Even when I almost exclusively used a MacBook Pro (even in a work environment) I just had to hook up an external monitor and an external keyboard and a mouse. I'm the other way around though I have to map OS X CMD to Alt when I use OS X.Īlso you can even buy keyboards that can switch key functions in the hardware. You could easily switch the "Windows key" (AKA super key) with Alt or Ctrl if you wanted to. I once remapped every single key just for shits and giggles (to see if it would be more productive). There are numerous ways to change what keys on a keyboard do. Everything else is a massive pain in the ass and not recommended unless you enjoy writing drivers. There are specific pieces of hardware that will work (out of the box) for a hackintosh. I think it would work though, pretty sure the parts were compatible ones.

I'm sure there are a handful of people using Linux (and others), but most consumer desktop software is designed for Windows and OS X. It's really a very subjective decision.įor people using graphic design software it often comes down to Windows and OS X. That being said, their laptops are a good deal for the most part.Īpple is a fine choice for a certain type of person, and the same can be said for Windows, Linux, etc. $10,000 spent at the Apple store would not compare. $10,000 will get you a beast of a desktop with server quality parts. Custom desktop hardware that can run pretty much any operating system on x86/x86 64-bit architecture including OS X (If you choose the right parts) blows Apple out of the water in price, quality, and performance. I can't even wrap my head around being a video game developer and having to deal with all of the disparate operating systems (Wii U, 3DS, Vita, PS4, Xbox One, Windows, Linux, Android, iOS, etc.) What a freakin' nightmare.Īlso, there are many other metrics to compare operating systems by, but for many people the Mac Pro is a very poor excuse for a desktop machine. The people who really suffer are techs and programmers.
